LD 1485 This bill creates the at-risk persons program to provide law enforcement officers with the contact information for a person designated by an at-risk person or that person's legal guardian. The program also provides access to information that may aid in maximizing the safety of the at-risk person during an encounter with a law enforcement officer. Amendment H-373 This amendment replaces the bill and title. The amendment requires the Department of Public Safety to develop and implement a contact person program, a voluntary program to assist a law enforcement officer with communications with a participating person during an encounter between the participating person and the law enforcement officer. A participating person is a person who voluntarily applies or whose legal guardian applies to the program. The program must provide the law enforcement officer with access to contact information and must interface with the State's telecommunications and radio message switching system. This bill extends to those same persons the current law shielding persons from liability for acts done or omitted in collecting or withdrawing specimens of blood. LD 540 Current law requires that only attorneys who are admitted to the practice of law in the State may be elected or appointed district attorney. This bill adds the requirement that an attorney may not have been suspended from the practice of law in the State or any other jurisdiction during the previous 10 years in order to be elected or appointed district attorney and specifies that disbarment or suspension from the practice of law vacates the office. Amendment H-98 The bill provides for the disqualification of a person to be elected or appointed district attorney if the person has been suspended from the practice of law within the previous 10 years. It also provides that disbarment or suspension during the term of office results in the person vacating the office. This amendment retains these provisions. This amendment requires a district attorney to be a "member in good standing of the bar of the State," which is consistent with the generally accepted standard of qualification of attorneys for positions. Language from the law governing qualifications for the Attorney General is added to the law governing qualifications for a district attorney to make these provisions consistent. Amendment H-576 This amendment changes the mandatory minimum period of suspension of a driver's license after a finding of negligence in causing a fatal accident from 3 years to one year. It directs the Treasurer of State to invest the funds in the Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers Health Insurance Program Trust Fund in accordance with the state-held trust investment policy of the Treasurer of State. Amendment S-188 This amendment replaces the bill. The amendment provides that funds held in connection with the Retired County and Municipal Law Enforcement Officers and Municipal Firefighters Health Insurance Program that are not necessary to support the normal costs and administrative costs of the program are held in a trust fund.
